Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures have officially released the first trailer for Mission: Impossible 8. Cruise also announced the film's title as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning alongside the debut teaser.
Originally set to be the second part of 2023's Dead Reckoning, the upcoming film was expected to be released in 2022. However, due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike, the release date was delayed. On Monday morning, Cruise revealed the film's title and poster on Instagram with the caption, "Every choice has led to this." This gives fans a sneak peek into the action-packed adventure awaiting them, including scenes of Cruise diving underwater and exploring shipwrecks, as well as his usual stunts like flying and jumping from a biplane. The teaser also showcased the return of Angela Bassett as CIA Director Erika Sloane, who first appeared in Fallout.
In the previous film, Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, faced a dangerous AI known as The Entity, which could predict his every move. He discovered that The Entity was hidden in an old Russian submarine, and he was trying to find it before others could get their hands on it. The film will also feature the return of Esai Morales as Gabriel, a former adversary of Ethan, along with Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, and Indira Varma. New characters in the franchise include Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman, and Tramell Tillman. Christopher McQuarrie will return as director and co-writer, alongside Bruce Geller and Erik Jendresen. Cruise and McQuarrie will also serve as producers for the film.
