Apple is looking into new innovative projects. Following in Meta's footsteps, reports suggest that Apple is considering developing its own smart glasses. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone maker will venture into AI eyewear following their Apple Vision Pro headset.
Recently, Apple conducted an internal study under the code name Atlas. During the study, they gathered information from their employees about existing products, which led to their decision to enter the eyewear space. In what appears to be a leaked email from Apple's headquarters in California, Bloomberg reported, "The review and development of products that everyone will love is crucial to what we do at Apple. This is why we are seeking participants to join us in an upcoming user study with current smart glasses on the market." Apple is aware that they will face competition from Meta and Snap Inc.
The Vision Pro is Apple's first set of smart lenses, but the mixed reality VR device has proven to be too bulky and awkward for users — not to mention the hefty price tag of $3,499 USD. The company recently reported that it will reduce the production of the Vision Pro due to low demand. However, Apple has plans to adjust the pricing to make it more affordable for their customers. It is unclear when Apple will release their version of smart glasses, but it seems the tech company is exploring steps to create a new wearable eye piece in the future.
