The first image from the secret Kanye West documentary "In Whose Name?" has been released.
Variety reports that the upcoming documentary has been in production for six years, during which Nicolas Ballesteros filmed Ye's journey using an iPhone. It showcases "unfiltered aspects of the life of a celebrity grappling with challenging opinions, grand visions, and bold contrarianism that characterize him as the most controversial artist in the world."
According to additional parts of the synopsis, "The film follows Ye's rise as the wealthiest Black man in American history while exploring why the star risked everything he had built for freedom. Examining the culture that shaped the star, In Whose Name? explores the overlapping influences of commercial exploitation, the complexities of race, and the psychological challenges that are part of the American dream."
Along with Ballesteros in production are Jack M. Russell and Shy Ranje, while Justin Staple serves as the co-executive producer and David Bullock as the associate producer. Goodfellas and Utopia have teamed up to handle the global sales of the film at the American Film Market.
“We’re thrilled to present ‘In Whose Name?’ at AFM,” said Marie Zeniter, vice president of sales at Utopia, and Eva Diederix, head of sales at Goodfellas. “This powerful documentary offers an unfiltered perspective without narration; it invites viewers to draw their own conclusions on themes of fame, religion, and power. We believe that audiences around the world deserve to witness how one of the most influential people in the world navigates the complexities and contradictions of fame.” Stay tuned for the official trailer and the release date in 2025!
