Leica launched their reliable Leica M3 model exactly seven decades ago, marking the beginning of the camera company's trusted and ever-evolving M-System that still exists today. Launched in 1954, the M-System has grown to consist of multiple models including the Leica M9, Leica M11, and Leica M11-P, and to celebrate this occasion, Leica is releasing another limited edition M-System model .
Limited to only 70 units, the Leica M Edition 70 is equipped with the Leica M-A camera, Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. lens, a Leicavit M fast winder and a film holder full of film. The Leicavit M fast winder for manual film transport is available in three colors: black-painted, glossy black-painted, and silver-chromed options.
“The quality and craftsmanship of the materials, the sense of precision in every movement, the soft click of the shutter release and the visual clarity of the viewfinder all come together to create an experience beyond simply taking pictures,” said Mark Shipard, Leica's head of design.
Accompanying the new Leica M Edition 70 is the Leica M anniversary book. At 250 pages, the extensive archive covers the history of the M-System through essays, photographs, and rare archival materials.
Take a closer look at the photo book in the gallery below. The Leica M Edition 70 is expected to be released for purchase in early 2025, while the anniversary book will arrive at Leica flagship locations and their official online store on November 5.
