Luca Guadagnino seems set to direct the new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho.
According to Deadline, the filmmaker is “in final negotiations” to direct the upcoming version, with Scott Z. Burns writing the script. Sources say the Challengers director's project is not a remake of Mary Harron's 2000 American Psycho starring Christian Bale, but a new adaptation of Ellis' novel. Lionsgate is said to have been "working to fine-tune" this intellectual property for some time, and studio executives feel he is the "perfect choice to bring a fresh perspective" to the project.
“We're thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson. “Luca is a great artist, and the perfect visionary to create a completely new interpretation of this powerful and classical IP.”
