7 New Horror Films You Can Watch on Halloween 2024

If you're a fan of horror movies, you're in luck this month! After scary movies like *Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme* and *Sister Death* in 2023, there is a new lineup of movies that are sure to give you goosebumps this Halloween season.

From scary stories that make ordinary things scary, to new Filipino zombie flicks and well-known rom-com stars getting into horror, we have a lot to look forward to. Here are seven horror films premiering this October and November that you won't want to miss:

1. Outside

  • Directed by Carlo Ledesma 
  • Premieres October 17 on Netflix 

This gripping local zombie film follows parents Francis (Sid Lucero) and Iris (Beauty Gonzales) as they take their children to Francis' remote farmhouse for their safety. The suspense builds as viewers wonder if they can keep their family safe from the monsters.

2. Nanay, Tatay

  • Directed by Roni S. Benaid 
  • Premieres October 30 at SM Cinema  

This film from the Sine Sindak 2024 film festival investigates family secrets. After the brutal loss of their 13-year-old daughter Malena, parents (Andrea Del Rosario, Jeffrey Hidalgo) welcome three girls (Xia Vigor, Aubrey Caraan, Heart Ryan) in need into their home. A series of strange supernatural events occur, leading to questions about Malena's fate.

3. Pasahero

  • Directed by Roman Perez, Jr.  
  • Premieres October 30 at SM Cinemas

This film from Sine Sindak 2024 shows the haunting aftermath of a brutal crime on a train, where seven passengers struggle with the guilt of their inaction.

4. Hold Your Breath  

  • Directed by Will Joines and Karrie Crouse 
  • Streaming October 3 on Hulu   

Set in 1930s Oklahoma, a mother (Sarah Paulson) desperately protects her daughters (Amiah Miller, Alona Jane Robbins) from severe dust storms, while worrying about an evil gray man who is said to be a bad influence.

5. Smile 2 

  • Directed by Parker Finn 
  • Premieres October 18 in theaters  

In the sequel to 2022's *Smile*, pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins seeing disturbing smiles after a traumatic incident with a former classmate. As the fear grows, he struggles to maintain control as he prepares for his world tour.

6. House of Spoils  

  • Directed by Bridget Savage Cole at Danielle Krudy  
  • Streaming October 3 on Prime Video  

This psychological thriller follows a passionate chef (Ariana DeBose) who opens her first restaurant in a creepy manor. While handling the chaos of his new business, he must deal with the evil spirit of the former owner of the estate.

7. Heretic

  • Directed by Scott Beck at Bryan Woods*  
  • Premieres November 8 in theaters*  

This A24 horror film features rom-com star Hugh Grant in a terrifying tale about Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East). Their missionary work brings them to Mr. Reed (Grant), forcing them into a precarious situation between faith and doubt.
