Spotify has a solution for that annoying situation that happens when you're on a plane and you suddenly realize you forgot to download your music. This new feature is called Offline Backup and when turned on, it automatically creates and downloads a playlist for offline use.
Offline Backup takes the user's queued and recently streamed songs and merges them into a playlist. The app only uses tracks that are already stored on the user's device as part of their cache – even if the songs haven't been downloaded yet.
Once done, users can sort their Offline Backup playlist and organize music by mood or genre. The playlist constantly evolves to include the user's latest streamed tracks, reflecting their changing tastes.
Offline Backup first launched in beta last year and is now available to all Spotify Premium subscribers worldwide.
