It's officially Halloween month, and KAWS continues his not-so-scary MONSTERS series with new all-black vinyl figures. This is a continuation of the cereal-inspired cartoons that the artist created for General Mills in 2022. The latest set of MONSTERS figures has the same build as the set that KAWS released in March of this year, but replaced the rich tones of the first collection of monochromatic looks.
This collection features Frute Brute, Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry, with each figure standing between 11 and 13 inches tall. Aside from their monochromatic construction, the only clue that this is a KAWS collaboration is in their eyes, where the artist's familiar “X” logo replaces the usual pupil. This detail comes from his famous Companion figure, which is also inspired from Mickey Mouse.
The release of the new MONSTERS figures comes at a typically busy time for this vibrant artist. His work is featured alongside some of Andy Warhol's most famous creations in the KAWS + Warhol exhibition at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh—which highlights the dark themes in each artist's work. Recently, he also released a BIG MOON lamp inspired by his latest KAWS: HOLIDAY installation.
Each of the new MONSTERS figures can be obtained through the KAWSONE webstore now for $320 USD (PHP 18,000) each.
