After nearly two decades, The Cure is back with a long-awaited new song titled “Alone.” This single will be the opening number for the band's next LP Songs Of A Lost World.
The song begins with an intricate instrumental arrangement with booming strings and stadium-like drums, before lead singer Robert Smith's classic soulful voice kicks in about halfway through the seven-minute track.
According to the band's statement, the song is inspired by a Victorian poem titled "Dregs" by British poet Ernest Dowson. Sad lyrics like “The fire burned out to ash and the stars grown dim with tears” narrate feelings of loneliness, conveyed through poignant imagery.
Considered one of the most influential rock acts to emerge from the UK, the band previewed a number of tracks on their latest Shows Of A Lost World tour, which spanned 90 days and hit 33 countries. In the coming weeks, The Cure will release other songs from the tracklist on their social media channels and on.
Songs Of A Lost World will be released worldwide on November 1, 2024. Listen to the band's new single below.
