Friday Night Lights actor Kyle Chandler has been cast as Hal Jordan in the upcoming DC and HBO series Lanterns.
The news was shared by The Hollywood Reporter, which says Hal Jordan will be seen “reluctantly mentoring” John Stewart—a young Lantern who was one of DC's first Black superheroes. "The story will revolve around two characters investigating a murder on Earth with greater impact," according to the report. Additionally, the series will have a tone similar to True Detective.
No actor has been confirmed to play John Stewart, but DC is said to be interested in casting a "young, more fresh-faced actor" opposite Chandler.
Chandler got the role after DC initially planned to cast a movie star like Josh Brolin, who turned down the offer. There was also speculation that Chris Pine and Ewan McGregor were being chosen for the role.
Lanterns was created by Chris Mundy (showrunner), Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who also write and executive produce the series. There are no other details about the rest of the cast and release date of the series as of now.
