Can you imagine a track beast Yamaha YZF-R1 racing in the desert? American stunt rider Aaron Colton used his YZF-R1 to tackle this impossible challenge, turning the king of the track into a sand racing monster. This Yamaha YZF-R1 is equipped with a dazzling SC Project exhaust pipe and all the racing technology you can think of, but the most unique aspect is the YZF-R1's tires have been replaced with off-road sand tires.
Usually, most of the desert heroes we see are off-road or adventure motorcycles, but Colton proved with the YZF-R1 that: with the right tires and a brave rider, anything is possible! He also extended the rear wheel of the YZF-R1, a common practice on American modified motorcycles, to be more stable in the sand.
The inspiration for this build came from his collaboration with the Dunestars team and completing a crazy challenge in the sands of Silver Lake, Michigan. Colton shared, “I had so much fun with the whole process and can't wait for my next project, maybe a drift challenge or even a trip to the more famous Glamis Desert.”
The desert tires of this YZF-R1 use Bridgestone S23 and Battlax AX41 off-road tires, which provide smooth performance in the sand. If you like this modification, you might also like to see the picture of Suzuki Hayabusa flying through the sand dunes. After all, who doesn't want to take a big heavy machine into the desert? Colton's bold modification definitely shows people the limitless possibilities of the Yamaha R1.
