Ridley Scott released a 3.5 Hour Napoleon movie now longer. Director Ridley Scott announced the new version of the film starring Joaquin Phoenix, in which 48 minutes of never-before-seen scenes were added, extending the total time of the film to 3.5 hours or exactly 205 minutes. For comparison, the theatrical version lasted 157 minutes.
The director's cut was released on Apple TV+, with Scott announcing in a new Director's Cut trailer, “Hello, people of the internet! I'm thrilled to announce that Napoleon: The Director's Cut is now available exclusively on Apple TV+, with new scenes that expand the scope of this epic production. Watch it now.” Scott even joked at the end, "F*ckin' great, that's good for me." The director's cut now on Apple TV+ may be even shorter than what Scott originally planned. Scott previously told Total Film that his personal cut for the film took 250 minutes, which equates to 4 hours and 10 minutes.
The film stars Phoenix as the famous French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. Scott's film deals with his strained relationship with his wife Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby, as well as his battles throughout his military career. The film was nominated for three Oscars. Scott is not new to making director's cuts. 11 of his 28 full-length films have had extended cuts, but Napoleon: The Director's Cut is the longest film on his list.
