Sotheby's will spotlight a select collection of historic Heuer timepieces as part of the Heuer Champions lineup at its upcoming New York Important Watches Auction. Among the lots is the iconic Heuer Monaco worn by legendary racer Steve McQueen while filming the 1971 film, Le Mans.
Estimated to sell for $500,000 – $1 million USD, this occasion also marks the first public viewing of the clock in over five decades. The Heuer ref. 1133B is clad in Monaco's emblematic square case, featuring a gray-blue dial that creates a striking contrast with its white sub-counters and minute track. Its connection to racing is reinforced by bold red accents that grace the hands and hour markers.
Included in the Heuer Champions lot is a selection of vintage chronographs that reference the watchmaker's motorsport history. These, along with the Heuer Monaco seen on Steve McQueen's wrist, will be put up for sale at Sotheby's New York Important Watches Auction in December.
From August 14-17, the watch will be featured at RM Sotheby's flagship Monterey auction in California. It will return to New York for exhibition from December 5-10 before going to the Important Watches Auction on December 11.
