The party-list nominee Leninsky Bacud, a candidate from The Firefighters of the Philippines, was killed on Monday, two weeks before the May 12 midterm elections.
According to the investigation by Manila Police District Station 14, Bacud was inside a covered gym in Barangay 435, Sampaloc, Manila when two riding-in-tandem gunmen arrived and opened fire on him.
Patrolman Rei Jetru Brual Realiza who was at the scene when the incident occurred managed to throw a gun at the suspects but was hit in the leg. PMaj Philipp Ines, the MPD spokesperson, said they immediately alerted hospitals to see if any were brought there with gunshot wounds.
Until now, it is still unclear what the motive for the murder was. Bacud's relatives have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
