Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon shook 89 volcanic earthquakes in 24 hours, including 2 volcanic tremors that lasted 1-2 minutes, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday.
Bulusan Volcano erupted on Monday morning, sending an ash plume that reached 4,500 meters into the sky. The ash drifted west to southwest. Ashfall was reported in the towns of Irosin, Juban, and Magallanes, and ash clouds were also seen from small pyroclastic density currents or PDCs on the southwestern slopes.
PHIVOLCS raised Alert 1, meaning the volcano is in low-level unrest and there is a possibility of phreatic eruptions after the eruption.
Due to this, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued an advisory, telling flight operators to avoid flying near Bulusan Volcano. Any danger from sudden explosive eruptions and ashfall is avoided. Flights near the volcano are prohibited from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has ordered 20,000 family food packs for affected families in Sorsogon. DSWD Field Office 5 will also deploy a mobile command center (MCC) and mobile kitchen to the most affected areas.
