Russel Zapeda, the suspect in the killing of Frince Ordeniza, has apologized to the victim's family. He admitted that he was the gunman in the incident in Cebu City on April 14, while Ordeniza was on his way to work in a motorcycle taxi. According to Zapeda, he was ordered by Christopher Ian Maropoc in exchange for P20,000.
In front of reporters, Zapeda said that Frince was the first person he killed. He also admitted to being involved in four other shooting incidents, but no one was killed in them. He added that he deeply regrets his actions.
Zapeda said he intentionally moved Ordeniza's cellphone so he could see her face clearly before shooting her. He even wore clothing that resembled the uniform of a ride-hailing app to avoid being noticed.
After the crime, Zapeda changed clothes, left the motorcycle in Barangay Mabolo, and boarded a SUV driven by Maropoc. Zapeda was identified through CCTV footage and with the help of witnesses. He was arrested and the gun, clothes, and vehicles used in the crime were recovered from him.
To this day, police are still searching for Maropoc and another accomplice who served as a lookout. charges have been prepared against Zapeda, and police say the case has been solved.
