It was revealed in the Senate that the government of China has contracted a company in Makati for troll farms. According to Senator Francis Tolentino, this is allegedly being used to influence public opinion and use social media in the elections this May.
The National Security Council (NSC) said that there are individuals and influencers in the Philippines who are being used to spread China's message, especially regarding the West Philippine Sea issue.
Also shown in the hearing was the contract of the Chinese embassy to Infinitus Marketing Solutions, worth P930,000, to boost China's image on social media. There is possible foreign interference in the elections, according to the Comelec and government agencies.
Tolentino said China's goal is to destroy unity and influence Philippine politics through espionage and fake news.
The Senate called on agencies to inspect the company's operations, and guard the freedom and security of the country.
