More than 300 families were affected after a major fire broke out in Barangay 650, Port Area, Manila early this morning. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Manila, the fire started around midnight and quickly spread to the houses.
Within twenty minutes, the incident was immediately escalated to Task Force Alpha. more than 25 fire trucks from the BFP responded immediately and were assisted by 100 fire volunteers. The fire spread quickly because the houses were made of light materials and close to each other.
The narrow passageway in the area posed a challenge for firefighters. Fire trucks had difficulty entering and water supply was slow due to the distance from the fire hydrant. According to Fire Senior Inspector Leslie Ramos, the operation was difficult due to the narrow alleyway and the lack of water.
The BFP said the fire started on the fourth floor of a house. One of the affected residents, Deedang Abdurahman, lost his house and belongings. "We lost nothing. Even my children's birth certificates were left behind," he said.
Before 6 a.m., the Fire Under Control was declared. The BFP-Manila investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the fire and if anyone was injured or killed in the incident.
