Two construction workers were buried after a part of a building under construction collapsed in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Santa Rosa, Laguna this Sunday morning, April 13. According to Sta. Rosa police chief Lt. Col. Benson Pimentel, the victims are aged 29 and 42 years old.
At 4:00 p.m., personnel from the Santa Rosa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the police rescued the two workers. They were immediately rushed to the hospital because they were unconscious when found.
While the two were pouring cement on the second floor of the building, the scaffolding they were standing on gave way. As a result, the floor collapsed, trapping them in the rubble. According to Pimentel, it is not yet known whether they died, and confirmation from the doctor is awaited.
Mayor Arlene Arcillas also went to the area to personally see the situation. The police investigation is continuing to find out the real cause of the incident.
Authorities are still seeking a statement from the construction firm's management and the building owner. The condition of the two workers, who are currently receiving treatment, is being monitored.
