A Filipino-Chinese businessman is set to meet with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to discuss kidnapping cases in the country, including the case of Anson Que, who was found dead in Rodriguez, Rizal.
Cecilio Pedro, former president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII), said there have been unverified reports of kidnappings since the beginning of the year, but Que's case is worrisome because his family allegedly paid the ransom but the kidnappers still killed him.
Pedro believes that death penalty is the appropriate punishment for kidnappers, which he considers a cruel crime that is destructive to society. He expressed his opinion in an interview and said that he wants to change the law to provide the death penalty for those who commit such crimes.
The PNP recorded 40 kidnapping cases, most of which were related to underground gambling and cyber fraud. Pedro called on businessmen to be careful and immediately call authorities if they suspect they are being followed.
