A woman has been charged after she drowned her miniature schnauzer in an airport bathroom. Police say she was denied permission to bring the dog on a flight because of a problem with the animal's paperwork.
According to the report, Alison Lawrence of Kenner, Louisiana, was charged with aggravated animal abuse on March 19 in Lake County, Florida. Surveillance video shows her entering the bathroom with her dog and coming out 20 minutes later, it was gone. The janitor also noticed water and dog food left on the floor and when he returned, he found the dog in the trash bin with its belongings.
Investigators traced the owner of the dog using a microchip. A necropsy determined the miniature schnauzer drowned. Lawrence was arrested, but has since flown to Colombia and Ecuador. He was released on $5,000 bail.
