On March 20, Boston Dynamics released the latest video showcasing the cutting-edge capabilities of its humanoid robot, Atlas. In the video, Atlas can be seen walking, running, crawling, flipping, and performing a variety of complex human-like movements — all performed smoothly and naturally.
This demonstration is part of a collaborative project between Boston Dynamics and the Robotics and AI Institute (RAI Institute). Through training using reinforcement learning, and based on human motion capture and animation references, Atlas learned to move with a skill never before demonstrated.
The RAI Institute was founded by former Boston Dynamics CEO Marc Raibert, and the institution's goal is to advance cutting-edge AI for robotics. This collaboration is one of the fruits of their ongoing research and development in the field of robotics.
This achievement is considered an important step towards more advanced humanoid robots that can be used in practical applications in the future.
