A Filipino seaman has been reported missing after a chemical tanker and container ship collided off the northeast coast of England.
"Based on the report of the licensed manning agency, the able seaman (AB) was aboard the MV Solong collided with the Oil Tanker Stena Immaculate in the North Sea on 10 March 2025 around 10 a.m. (UK local time) in the Humber Estuary, Hull," according to a DMW statement.
The Filipino sailor was last seen on the bow of the MV Solong, where there was a large explosion and fire after the collision.
Meanwhile, the other eight Filipinos, including five Russian crew members, were safely rescued from the ship.
According to DMW, the rescued sailors are currently staying at a hotel in Grimsby, London and are scheduled to be repatriated to the Philippines as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that the Russian captain of the MV Solong was arrested.
UK authorities are investigating the cause of the incident while also liaising with the flag states of the ships involved.
The manning agencyhas also informed the family of the missing sailor about the situation and promised to provide daily updates on the investigation.
DMW assured that they are continuing to communicate with the manning agency and the family of the missing crew member to ensure that all the help and support they need is provided during this difficult time.
