According to media reports in the Philippines, the Manila Light Rail Transit Corporation (LRMC) announced that the LRT-1 will have a new fare adjustment starting April 2, 2025.
February 18, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) sent an official notification to LRMC President and CEO Enrico Benipayo, indicating the approval of the fare adjustment request. The notice was signed by Undersecretary for Railways Jeremy Regino and approved by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista.
Under the new fare scheme, the minimum fare of a single journey ticket will increase from 15 pesos to 20 pesos. Meanwhile, the maximum fare for the end-to-end trip will increase from 45 pesos to 55 pesos. For stored value card users, the charge is slightly lower—the minimum fare is 19 pesos, while the maximum fare is 52 pesos.
This fare hike is expected to affect daily commuters of LRT-1. Authorities have not yet released a statement on whether they will provide subsidies or other discounts to ease the impact of the fare increase on passengers.
