The 25-year-old couple, who were riding a motorcycle, were killed when they were hit by a police mobile on Marcos Highway, Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City, Rizal, on Monday afternoon, February 18, 2025.
According to Police Captain Alnor Tagara, Chief of Investigation and Operations of the Antipolo Police, the police mobile lost control while traveling the Marcos Highway. The mobile met the motorcycle that the couple was riding, as well as a jeep that was involved in the accident.
"It was raining heavily and the road was wet. The police mobile was going to Boso-Boso, while the motorcycle and jeep were going to Cogeo. The mobile lost control while on patrol, so it collided with the motorcycle and it flipped into the jeep," according to PCapt. Tagara.
The front of the jeep was damaged, but the driver and passengers were safe. The PNP clarified that it was an accident due to the wet road.
"Ipinapakita ng pangyayari na basa ang daan, at kahit may preno, nawalan ng kontrol ang mobile patrol," dagdag pa ni PCapt. Tagara.
A day before the tragedy, the male victim celebrated his birthday. According to the Barangay Inarawan medical team, the couple suffered serious head injuries.
"The man has a possible fracture in the left leg, and the woman has a possible fracture in the right arm. They are both lifeless, so they were taken to the hospital," said Louie Cornel, Bgy. Day medic.
The families of the victims declined to comment. The policeman who drove the police mobile is in the custody of the Antipolo Police and also refused to speak. He may be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide with damage to property.
