Ride-hailing firms Angkas and Move It strongly denied the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) accusation that they exceeded the set number of motorcycle taxi riders.
According to the LTFRB, each company has a limit of 15,000 riders in Metro Manila, 3,000 in Cebu, and 3,000 in Cagayan de Oro. However, the LTFRB reported that Angkas has 27,000 riders, while Move It has 17,000 riders in Metro Manila.
In an interview, Angkas CEO and Co-Founder George Royeca said they have just over 23,000 riders in Metro Manila, based on earlier approval by regulators in February 2020. At the time, the Department of Transportation Technical Working Group allowed Angkas to deploy 23,164 riders after Move It failed to fill their 15,000 slots.
Meanwhile, in an email to the LTFRB, Move It General Manager Wayne Jacinto insisted that they are following the set limit and that they only have 14,662 riders in Metro Manila as of May 2024.
