Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the popular Asian series "Meteor Garden," has passed away at the age of 48.
According to reports, Barbie passed away due to pneumonia caused by influenza that she contracted during the Lunar New Year.
"Our whole family went to Japan for vacation, and my dearest and kindest sister Barbie Hsu passed away from pneumonia caused by influenza and unfortunately left us behind," said Barbie's sister Dee Hsu, a talk show host, through his agent.
"I'm thankful that he was my brother in this life and that we had the opportunity to care and be together. I will always be grateful and miss him!"
Barbie is survived by her husband, Korean singer Koo Jun-yup, as well as her 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, whom she gave birth to in her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
Barbie rose to fame in the Philippines after she played the role of Shan Cai in the hit Asian series "Meteor Garden" in 2001.
