Six Philippine universities made it to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, and only one discipline did not make the list this year.
The list includes the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Santo Tomas, Mapua University, and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), and they all entered in subjects other than Law.
Under Arts and Humanities and Business and Economics, only UP and DLSU made it to the rankings, where they shared a spot in the 601+ and 801+ brackets, respectively. The two universities were also the only ones to enter the Medicine and Health subject, with UP leading the local ranking in the 501-600 spot.
Only UP made it into Life Sciences in the 801-1000 bracket.
Mapua is the leading university in the Philippines in Computer Science and Engineering, which is in the 801-1000 and 1001-1250 brackets. In the same subject, UP and DLSU shared second place.
DLSU is the leading university in Education studies in the 401-500 bracket, followed by UP and UST in the 501-600 bracket. DLSU also topped Psychology in the 401-500 bracket, followed by Ateneo in the 501-600 bracket.
In Physical Sciences, only UST did not enter the rankings. Mapua and MSU-IIT are in the 801-1000 bracket, while UP, Ateneo, and DLSU are in the 1001+ bracket.
UP, Ateneo, and DLSU are ranked the same in Social Sciences in the 801-1000 bracket.
The rankings are based on key indicators submitted by each university in the academic year 2022, according to THE. Indicators include research quality, industry, international outlook, research environment, and teaching.
