DJI has announced its latest flying camera, the DJI Flip, a drone designed for vlogging that it calls “the first drone with foldable, full-coverage propeller guards for the safest flight.”
Proving that size doesn't always matter, the DJI Flip features an impressive list of specs including a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing 48-megapixel photos and high-resolution 4K video. In the field of stills, it can capture up to 7 frames in burst mode, and can capture images in both JPG and DNG (RAW) formats.
In video, it can reach 100fps in 4K when shooting landscape. But the DJI Flip also has a vertical shooting mode dedicated to mobile content creators – it's limited to 2.7K as the maximum resolution and 30fps as the maximum frame rate, as sensor cropping is required to fit the format. It can also capture “Normal” MP4 video, which is processed in-camera, as well as raw D-Log M format which gives greater control over the video's appearance.
Its lens has an 82.1° field of view with a large f/1.7 aperture which, when paired with the drone's maximum 6400 ISO, promises good performance even in low light.
According to DJI, their new drone "combines creative tools such as AI subject tracking and intelligent shooting modes with safety features such as the latest foldable propeller guards," in addition to automatic braking designed to be "easier to to everyone to get stunning aerial footage regardless of their level of photography or drone expertise.”
The DJI Flip is available for purchase now through the brand's website for £369 GBP/ €439 EUR / $439 USD.
