In celebration of Need for Speed's 30th anniversary, BMW has turned the Most Wanted BMW M3 GTR from the popular game into a real car.
"Many gamers will surely remember Need for Speed™: Most Wanted from 2005," according to a BMW blog post. “One of the reasons is a special BMW M model driven by the game's main protagonist, Clarence Callahan, aka 'Razor': the BMW M3 GTR from 2001.
Its unique silver-blue design, harsh sound, brutal power, and its role in the game's story have left a deep impression on many gamers.”
To bring the iconic racing car to life, BMW made the virtual vehicle a version of the original BMW M3 GTR (2001), a racing car based on the BMW M3 E46. BMW M Motorsport did it for the American Le Mans Series, and the BMW M3 GTR won seven out of 10 races, under the leadership of Jörg Müller as driver. The vehicle, which weighs 1,100 kg, has a P60B40 V8 engine with a max output of around 450 horsepower and a top speed of an estimated 260 km/h.
“The M3 GTR is one of the most iconic and beloved cars in Need for Speed history,” said John Stanley, senior creative director for Need for Speed Unbound.
