Transparent announced their latest loudspeaker, the Brutalist Speaker, as a tribute to the esoteric architectural style that continues to carve its mark on the collective consciousness of the 21st century. The audio brand from Stockholm, known for creating striking and minimalist speakers, has infused their signature style into the interpretation of what a brutalist speaker looks like, and the result is truly special.
Transparent described the speaker as “a monument of sound and design.” Most of the Brutalist Speaker is made from metal and uses 70% post-consumer recycled aluminum, demonstrating their goal of becoming the "first circular tech brand." The speaker is designed to provide "optimal acoustical properties," featuring elements aimed at creating an immersive soundscape. Among its features are dual three-inch tweeters facing each other at 90 degrees, which are said to enhance detailed high-frequency sound, and carefully placed bass drivers that deliver clean and undistorted lows described as "massive, yet effortless."
The Brutalist Speaker stands 23.2 inches tall and weighs 23.2 lbs (12 kg), making it large and striking—an object not only for listening to music but also for sparking conversation.
According to Per Brickstad, co-founder and creative director of Transparent, "It's exciting to bring this legendary architectural style into people's homes." He proudly stated that the Brutalist Speaker serves as an example of their vision that "audio objects can be both aesthetically striking and technically advanced, yet easy to use."
In terms of technical specifications, the Brutalist Speaker has a frequency response of 32Hz – 20kHz and can output hi-res audio up to 192kHz and 24-bits. It supports various codecs such as MP3, FLAC, and WAV, and is compatible with popular streaming platforms like Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect. Additionally, it features wireless connectivity using Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-band WiFi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).
The Brutalist Speaker is now available on Transparent's website in two finishes: ‘Black’ and ‘Metal’, priced at $4,000 USD.
