The concept of a double-decker bus is familiar to everyone, but bringing this idea into the world of electric tricycles is an innovation from the Japanese design company Envision Incorporated with their "Streek" — an electric cargo tricycle with a forward-thinking design, resembling a compact double-decker shelf. Now, the upgraded model of the Streek will be released in the American market as a new solution for urban logistics.
The first version of the "Streek" was introduced in 2022 and gained attention due to its unique circular frame design, allowing for layered cargo storage similar to an open-style double-decker bus. This adds significant cargo capacity while maintaining the compact size of the tricycle. For logistics operating in crowded city centers, this design enhances cargo capacity while boosting transportation capabilities in urban areas.
The original Streek has already been sold in Japan, and to expand the market, Envision collaborated with Vvolt, an electric vehicle company from Portland, Oregon, to develop the version of the Streek for America.
For the American model, the Streek has undergone several changes to meet market needs. The first change is in the power system, where the new Ananda Drive center motor provides a maximum speed of 45 km/h, higher than the Japan version, which has a maximum speed of 24 km/h. This is a clear response to American preferences for faster speeds. Thus, the Streek will be more efficient and stylish to use on urban roads in America.
In the frame design, this new model is designed to accommodate taller users, making it easy for taller individuals as well as those with a height of 157.5 cm to fit comfortably, thus broadening its application. The new frame is made by Vvolt's production partners and is no longer sourced from the Streek factory in Japan. Additionally, the belt drive system has been optimized, and the hub motor has been enlarged to improve usage efficiency and the overall user experience.
In terms of cargo configuration, the American version of the Streek will offer new cargo options, although the details have not yet been disclosed. It is expected that these changes will also be brought to the Japan version to increase its cargo capacity and flexibility. Vvolt anticipates launching a Kickstarter campaign in the spring of 2025 (Northern Hemisphere) for the Streek, where more technical details and pricing information will be released. If you want to be one of the first owners of the Streek in America, you can sign up on the Vvolt website to receive the latest updates.
Just imagine a double-decker electric cargo tricycle swiftly and carefully navigating urban streets, loaded and capable of turning gracefully. It will surely become an iconic part of future city logistics!
