Over the weekend, Audemars Piguet teased their collaboration with artist KAWS. Now, the Maison has officially unveiled the highly anticipated project: the special Royal Oak timepiece called the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon "Companion" limited edition.
Measuring 43mm, the watch features a sandblasted titanium case and a black ceramic crown. It is powered by the hand-wound 2979 movement, offering a 72-hour power reserve and ticking at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The dial features a sunburst titanium dial plate, where KAWS' iconic COMPANION figure appears to be trapped inside the watch. The character is painted in varying gray tones, highlighting its three-dimensional design. The tourbillon movement is visible at the heart of COMPANION, resembling a beating heart.
The eight hexagonal screws traditionally used by AP to attach the bezel, case middle, and caseback are redesigned with "X" motifs — a symbol associated with KAWS, also reflecting the eyes of the COMPANION. As part of the grayscale color scheme, the watch comes with two interchangeable calfskin leather straps with a textile-like finish, available in light gray and slate gray colors.
Limited to only 250 pieces, the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Companion” is priced at 200,000 CHF (approximately $226,504 USD) and can be ordered through Audemars Piguet.
