Hyundai has launched an amazing new model RN24, which is the latest creation of the Hyundai Rolling Lab. Since 2012, they have continued to develop mid-engined supercars. Although it was not able to produce mass production, it did not lose its remarkable concepts. The new electric concept RN24 has become the latest creation, although it might be a bit difficult to call it a "vehicle", as it looks more like a minimalist electric drift machine!
The heart of the RN24 is the same dual electric motors and battery pack of the Ioniq 5 N, but Hyundai engineers decided to "reduce", removing the heavy body of the crossover and creating a special chassis inspired by the WRC World Rally Championship. The wheelbase has been shortened by around 340mm, but the 84.0 kWh battery has still been successfully inserted, thanks to their rearrangement of the battery module.
Like putting an elephant in a small house, this radical electric vehicle uses an exoskeleton roll cage and minimalist body design to reduce unnecessary weight. Even with this "tight" reduction, the weight of the RN24 still reaches 1,880 kg, which is almost 350 kg lighter compared to the Ioniq 5 N.
familiar, as it is from the Elantra N sports sedan. The rear spoiler is borrowed from Hyundai's TCR race car. The RN24 also takes many good things from other models, such as the WRC's powertrain control system, where the driver can adjust the output power of the electric motor via buttons on the steering wheel. They can also adjust the power distribution between the front and rear axles, as well as custom acceleration and regenerative braking sensitivity, providing a more personalized driving experience.
The cooling system is an upgraded version of the Ioniq 5 N, and the electronic handbrake is from WRC technology, where the motor torque control system simulates the mechanical settings of the i20 N Rally1. The special rally mode offers torque distribution to all four wheels.
The RN24's design is focused on drift, but it doesn't skimp on straight-line acceleration, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of less than 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 240 km/h. Although it is fully electric, you can definitely hear its artificial hum, because apart from the two external speakers of the Ioniq 5 N, it has two additional side speakers and the rear wheel arches also serve as speakers. Imagine, this vehicle passing by you with a loud sound, sure to be the center of attention!
Although Hyundai does not intend to sell this kind of beast, they say that the RN24 is not just a test vehicle, but that it will open a new conversation about the next generation of high-performance electric vehicles, paving the way for the upcoming model like Ioniq 6 N.
