While continuing to be established by Hublot at Takashi Murakami their relationship, the latest unveiling from the two brings back the MP-15 Tourbillon Sapphire Rainbow for a limited release. Last year, two special MP-15 models were announced, one of which was set for Only Watch 2023 auction, while a less colorful one iteration was revealed as a limited drop a few months later.
Stunning, intricate, and hyper-kawaii, the timepiece takes the form of Murakami's hallmark flower motif. Made of polished sapphire crystal, the casing has a clear and transparent finish that gives a glimpse of the interior. Despite its unusual shape, the timepiece measures 42mm in diameter, with each “petal” encrusted with gemstones. What makes this iteration unique from the auction piece is that each petal features a different color that corresponds to its parallel hour marker. Although both variants are set with 444 gemstones, the Only Watch edition features a rainbow-like gradient on all the petals.
Murakami's iconic smiley face is laser-engraved into the domed sapphire crystal, which forms the center of the dial. Beneath the smile is the HUB9015 manual-winding tourbillon, which is skeletonized, creating the visual intrigue of the movement as if floating in mid-air.
The one-off piece given to Only Watch sold for 420,000 CHF (approximately $484,473 USD) at auction.
But this time, the timepiece will be available for purchase in a 20-piece limited run, each priced at $374,000 USD. For more details, visit the official website of Hublot.
