In an innovative collaboration, HMD Global has introduced the Fusion smartphone, a device that reflects the concept of symbiosis, similar to the iconic Marvel anti-hero Venom. This smartphone allows users to combine their devices with interchangeable “Smart Outfits,” which change its functionality and appearance in real time.
To celebrate the release of Venom: The Last Dance in the U.S., HMD has created three exclusive Smart Outfits , which was unveiled at a pop-up event on October 20 and is set to appear on the red carpet for the film's premiere on October 21. These outfits feature Venom's dark aesthetic and include custom notification sounds and visuals inspired by movie, such as the phrase “We are Venom” when the device boots up.
Each exclusive outfit integrates 160 electromagnetic arrays that control a liquid similar to Venom – ferrofluid – in a glass chamber attached to the Fusion with six pins. When the outfit is activated, it changes the phone's physical appearance and software, reflecting the relationship between Venom and Eddie Brock.
The HMD Fusion smartphone is now available for pre-order on the HMD webstore, with official Venom-themed wallpapers available for download. Although the limited edition Venom outfits are not available for purchase, consumers can expect a variety of Smart Outfits to be launched in the coming months, with a more advanced version set to arrive in 2025.i
