Alpine has officially launched their Alpenglow Hy6, their latest hydrogen-powered prototype, at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. The advanced version of the Alpenglow, first presented as a concept in 2022, has a world-first V6 engine specially designed for hydrogen combustion.
The new twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine of the Alpenglow Hy6 is capable of producing 740 hp, which is double the power of the previous model, the Hy4. The vehicle reaches speeds of over 205 mph and can rev up to 9,000 rpm, providing a sound that combines the power of a traditional engine with the environmental benefits of hydrogen technology.
Alpine engineers worked with Oreca to develop this engine, housed in a transparent and visually striking case at the rear of the vehicle. The car's bold aerodynamic design, including the floating rear wing and larger shark fin, adapts to the new engine's power and enhanced cooling requirements. Inside, the Alpenglow Hy6 has a futuristic cockpit with bucket seats, metallic accents, and a racing-inspired steering wheel. The cabin has action-camera slots for drivers to capture their high-speed driving experiences.
The Alpenglow Hy6 shows the automaker's commitment to hydrogen-powered sports cars, potentially paving the way for hydrogen race cars at the 2028 24 Hours of Le Mans. Currently, there are no details about public availability and pricing.
