According to Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, Quiboloy filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) through an authorized representative because he is currently incarcerated in connection with the cases of qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse.
Mark Tolentino, one of Quiboloy's lawyers, submitted his COC. The controversial religious leader is running under the banner of the Workers' and Peasants' Party (WPP).
However, Atty denied. Sonny Matula of WPP signed Quiboloy's certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA).
“I am not aware of who signed his CONA. Only three are authorized to sign for WPP: the Chair, the President, and the Senior Vice President. As President, I confirm that I did not sign any CONA for Quiboloy,” he said in a post on X.
"After asking questions, Atty. Ariel Arias (Chair) and Dr. Oscar Morado (SVP) said they also had no knowledge of the signing of CONA for him,” he added.
Matula also said that they will conduct an investigation from the Comelec regarding this issue.
According to Tolentino, Quiboloy's platforms will be "God-centered, Philippine-centered, and Filipino-centered."
“Freedom of religion should not be violated. The government needs to protect the holy places against the force of the state... Pastor Quiboloy will be the senator of the poor, the senator of the ordinary Filipinos, the senator of the workers,” said Tolentino.
