Every fall, Apple aims to set a new standard for the best mobile phone on the market, by introducing new features to their flagship iPhone model every year. The iPhone 15 Pro brought big changes — like the A17 chip, lightweight design, new USB-C port, and Action Button — but the iPhone 16 Pro, in all its versions, features more subtle but effective improvements. -upgrades, such as Apple Intelligence, larger display, new pro camera features, improved graphics, and more.
When you hold the titanium device, which has the narrowest borders of all Apple products to date, you can immediately see that Apple has done well with its durability-to-lightweight ratio. It's available in four glossy colors — black titanium, natural titanium, white titanium, and desert titanium — and the phone looks just as sleek as previous models. The iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3 inches display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max has 6.9 inches, which is the largest iPhone display to date. Immediately noticeable is the new Camera Control button on the side of the device, added to make it easier to navigate the advanced camera system: a 48MP Fusion lens with a faster quad-pixel sensor for 4K120 fps video recording in Dolby Vision. With two light taps on the button, users can scroll through various controls, such as zoom, exposure, and depth of field, for a more realistic camera experience.
In addition, the device has new Photographic Styles that adjust color, highlights, and shadows in real-time. Apple says the tool better understands skin undertones, so users have more control over how they (or their subjects) appear in photos. In practice, Apple's imagery update feature appears to be effective on the device, but it will also be interesting to see how it works with personal photos taken outside of their office.
The device uses the advanced A18 chip, which provides higher performance capabilities and power efficiency thanks to its second-generation three-nanometer technology, which further accelerates Apple Intelligence — the tech giant's new digital assistant that can understand and create languages and images, take action in different applications, and take clues from personal context to make everyday tasks easier. In the demonstration, the tool worked flawlessly: it instantly summarized a passage of text in the Notes app, created realistic message responses in Mail, changed the tone of specific text with ease, and transcribed and summarize the audio.
It's also important to note that Apple Intelligence uses Private Cloud Compute to maintain the privacy of user data, safely maximizing synergy between on-device processing and larger processes running on Apple silicon servers. The tool will be released as part of a free software update next month.
With the A18 chip, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have 17% higher memory bandwidth, which is beneficial for the six-core GPU (which is now up to 20% faster as well). It's the fastest smartphone, according to the company, and it's an impressive addition considering its ability to run identical workloads on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models 15% faster with 20% less power. Moreover, the device's battery, made of 100% recycled cobalt and more than 95% recycled lithium, increases substantially to support 33 hours of video playback.
All in all, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are fine-tuned additions to Apple's ecosystem, and they're the ideal upgrade for tech-savvy individuals who can integrate these advanced performance models into their -daily routine or for those who just want to upgrade their phone camera experience.
