BMW M continues its long-standing tradition as the “Official Car of MotoGP” by launching its latest model, the BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car. It was presented at a special event for customers in Milan.
The new M5 Safety Car is designed to demonstrate BMW M's dedication to innovative and hybrid technology, featuring a model-specific M HYBRID system that combines a V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, with a total output of 727 hp. It is equipped with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, which promises incredible performance on the racetrack.
In the exterior design, the safety car takes bold styling cues from the motorsport heritage of BMW M. The graffiti-inspired livery reflects the design of the BMW M Hybrid V8 race cars, which compete in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M's Vice President of Customer, Brand and Sales, emphasized the brand's commitment to safety and innovation during the unveiling. "We are proud of our long-standing partnership with MotoGP and will continue to ensure safety with the most innovative high-performance automobiles," he said.
Among the special modifications for racetrack use are carbon fiber components, Recaro seats, a fire extinguisher, and other safety features. One of the notable guests at the event was nine-time motorcycle world champion Valentino Rossi, who now races as a BMW M works driver. The high-performance vehicle will make its racetrack debut on September 7 at the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini in Misano.
