The Macallan is celebrating its 200th anniversary by introducing one of its most expensive whiskeys to date. The Scotch distillery has introduced TIME : SPACE, a whiskey priced at $190,000 USD and bottled in a dual chamber.
One part of the bottle contains whiskey from 1940, aged for more than eight decades and only now bottled. This whiskey has flavors of roasted pineapple, cooked peach, crystallized ginger, aniseed, blackberry jam, woodsmoke, resin, and caramelized sugar.
On the other side of the bottle is the whiskey from 2018, which represents the future of the distillery, with flavors of golden sultanas, baked apple, lemon, and lime. They are both aged in sherry-seasoned oak casks for years.
As for the container itself, the two red chambers contain whiskey: the outer chamber is a ring-shaped decanter containing 1940 whiskey, while the inner chamber is a removable decanter with 2018 whiskey. The chambers are enclosed in an oak sculpture with spikes that seem to be nature's protection.
Only 200 units of The Macallan's TIME : SPACE are available, each priced at $190,000 USD.
