YouTube is working diligently to identify AI-generated videos posted on its platform. The company announced that they are developing two new AI tools: one to identify AI-generated music and one for generated faces.
The music identification feature is referred to by the company as “synthetic-singing identification technology,” which is primarily aimed at identifying songs that are deepfakes, such as Drake and The Weeknd's viral (but fake) collaboration. This tool appears to be available only to those who have joined Content ID, a service for copyright owners that allows them to identify and manage copyrighted material.
The second tool will allow people from various industries, from athletes to artists, to identify AI-generated content that shows their faces.
YouTube says it currently processes billions of claims made through Content ID every year, a number that will likely increase as more people gain access to the generative AI software.
